Located in California’s sunny central valley, Bakersfield is one of the state's fastest-growing cities due to its affordability and central location. We are just 2 hours from the ocean, world-class ski resorts, national parks, and Los Angeles.
Our well-established church is home to Heritage Christian Schools, which has over 200 students from preschool to 8th grade
We are looking for a team builder and equiper to build on our healthy ministries from kids to young adults.
Job Title: Pastor of Next Generation Ministries (Next Gen Pastor)
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Status: Full-Time
Compensation: $50,000 plus full benefits, relocation assistance, full tuition in our amazing school if you have children, and clergy housing tax deduction.

Position Summary
The Next Gen Pastor will oversee all ministries from babies through young adults (cradle to college), providing a leadership development strategy for the volunteers who lead them.
This role focuses on building spiritually mature followers of Jesus, equipping volunteers, and partnering with parents to lead the next generation.
The Next Gen Pastor will divide their time between Heritage Kids, Student Ministry, and Young Adult Ministry, and also serve in a Pastoral role at Heritage Christian Schools.
The Next Gen Pastor’s goal will be more on equipping others, rather than doing all the ministry on their own.

Key Responsibilities
Vision & Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship plan from infancy through college.
- Set measurable goals and clear objectives for each age group.
- Ensure smooth transitions between ministry stages (elementary to middle school, high school to college).
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, and lead volunteers across Kids (including nursery), Student, and Young Adult ministries.
- Develop leadership potential in students and adult volunteers.
- Cultivate a team culture in each ministry.
Spiritual Care
- Provide pastoral care, counseling, and prayer for students, parents, and volunteers.
- Serve as a spiritual resource and mentor within the church and Heritage Christian School.
Teaching & Communication
- Teach biblical truth in age-appropriate settings.
- Occasionally teach/preach in main worship services.
- Communicate effectively and consistently across all technology/media platforms with students, parents, volunteers, and church leadership.
Outreach & Engagement
- Create outreach strategies to reach unconnected kids, students, and young adults.
- Connect with families and partner with parents to disciple the next generation..
- Develop and oversee events such as retreats, camps, and mission trips that foster spiritual growth and community.
Administrative Leadership
- Oversee ministry budgets, calendars, and program logistics.
- Maintain alignment of Next Gen ministries with the overall mission and vision of the church.
- Collaborate with other ministry leaders to ensure unity and consistency across all church ministries.
Qualifications
- Strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to biblical truth. Agreement with our beliefs and confession of faith: Heritage Bible Church - What We Believe
- Proven leadership experience in kids, youth, or family ministry settings.
- Effective communicator and team builder.
- Passion for developing future generations in faith and leadership.
- Ability to work collaboratively with church staff, parents, and volunteers.
- A degree in ministry or a related field (education, counseling, social work, etc) is preferred but not required.
- Pastoral licensing with our national denomination will be required. Pastoral Licensing Documents – USMB
- Other duties as assigned.
