Tier Two Volunteer Committment

We believe that everyone should have the chance to serve.  However, some roles have a higher level of responsibility and accountability.
Tier two volunteers are leading people.  These roles include working with Heritage Kids (HK), Heritage Students, serving on a “Commission”, serving as an Elder, Small Group Leaders, and the Sunday morning worship team leading on stage.

Volunteers must be on board with the following agreement:
We are a diverse church and have people from many different backgrounds.  We love having unity amidst diversity.  However, tier two volunteers need to be on board with the core beliefs held by Heritage Bible Church. A disagreement does not necessarily disqualify you from serving but we do not want to put you in a position where you feel pressured to teach or represent a view that you do not embrace.  If you disagree or need clarification on these issues please address it with us.

DIRECTION
Our mission: Heritage Bible Church strives to impact our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ.  We do this through deep and engaging spiritual formation practices. We commit to investing our time together, nurturing new and maturing believers through prayer, worship, fellowship and discipleship.

Our mission drives our direction.  Therefore, we ask that our Tier Two leaders agree with the direction of the church.
This includes:
  • Attending church regularly.
  • Helping to financially support our mission.
  • Being verbally supportive of the church.
If you do not agree with the direction or decisions of the church, please bring that up with church leaders or staff. Please do not discuss negative opinions with the people you serve with.

HERITAGE BELIEFS
We ask that tier two volunteers read, understand, and agree with our Confession of Faith (separate document).

MORALITY
Character

We want our leaders to be known for their Christ-like character.  This includes being generous, encouraging, and positive, not gossiping, being mean or judgmental.

Sexuality:
Heritage holds to the belief that sex was created by God as an expression of intimacy between a man and woman within the context of marriage. In a world of sexual confusion, it is important that our tier two volunteers respect these convictions.
A volunteer who endorses a behavior that conflicts with this teaching will eventually find themselves having to pretend to be something they are not. To protect you from a potentially awkward situation we ask the following:
  • If you are involved in a sexual relationship or are cohabitating and are not married, we ask that you not lead as a tier-two volunteer at this time.
  • If you are married and are currently involved in a sexual relationship outside of your marriage, we ask that you not lead as a tier-two volunteer at this time.
  • If you are in an LGBTQI+ relationship we ask that you not lead as a tier-two volunteer at this time.

Substances:
  • Tier two volunteers need to set a positive standard regarding drugs, alcohol, & tobacco.
  • Tier two volunteers cannot use illegal drugs or abuse prescription drugs.
  • Tier two volunteers cannot serve or consume alcohol at Heritage functions, including during official small group meetings and on mission trips (including travel and recreation days).
  • If you personally consume alcohol please do so in a responsible manner, with moderation and sensitivity to others for whom alcohol use may be a sensitive issue.
  • We ask that no tobacco product or vape be used at any Heritage function by our tier two volunteers.

Social Media:
People who you lead will visit your social media. If you are leading children or students, their parents will visit. Social media can be a great connection tool, and it also serves as a window into your life beyond Heritage. We ask that you leverage social media with your tier two role in mind and in a Christ honoring way. We realize that this is a judgement call.  If in doubt we encourage you to check with your team leader or Pastor.
